November is National Family Literacy Month

The library will offer a family reading program during the month of November.  Participants are free to read e-books, listen to audio books and check out print material. The program will start Friday, November 1 and end Tuesday, December 3. Participating families will receive gift cards during the second week of December (10-14).

“Food for Fines”

The holiday season is approaching. The library would like to help provide non-perishables for a local organization that provides baskets for families. The library will accept canned goods and other non-perishable food items in place of  library fines November 1st – 21st. One food item will equal $1.00 off of library fines! All food will be donated to a local community organization. Donations should include only shelf stable foods, such as canned fruits, vegetables and meats, dried beans, rice, cereals, baby food, formula, etc. We cannot accept home-canned items, opened foods or foods past their expiration date. Patrons who are fine-free can still make a donation of goods during the food drive.

Family Stories Month

November is recognized as Family Stories month. We all have stories that have been passed down from our grandparents. Sometimes at Thanksgiving we listen to that elderly aunt or uncle talk about when they were children. Take steps to preserve family history for the next generation. Families can research family history at the library, put together scrapbooks of memories or even access genealogy websites that support shared family history blogs (ex. https://www.familysearch.org/search/). The library is a good place to find inspiration.
